This bronze mirror is made of a sheet of metal hammered down to less than a millimeter (1/32”) thick. The surface, originally polished to a high sheen to function as a mirror, has now achieved a variegated green patina. The ornamentation is limited to its flaring trapezoidal handle, with a finely scalloped edge and a frieze of five disks cut away by stamping. Similar mirrors have been found as far as the banks of the Caspian Sea, and in Anatolia, but their origin seems to be found in ancient Persia, 1100-900 BC.

Parallels:
Ratton (1970) catalogued a similar mirror from the Paul Barbier Collection as #193, Amlash. The shape and dimensions are identical, with additional embossed ornamentation.

Anlen and Padious (1989:520) described a Persian mirror with more simplified stamping and embossed geometric decoration, dating it to 700-300 BC.
